John Peterson has been called the dean of Christian composers. He's written over a thousand hymns and songs. His music is sung around the world. In the book on his life titled The Miracle Goes On, it tells the background behind the writing of some of the songs. One time he was hurt very much by an experience. And he wrote the song, No One Understands Like Jesus. Here's the way he tells about it. Radio was big in those days. WMBI, the station where he worked, had a rather large, complicated resident staff. My title as assistant talent director didn't mean a great deal, but when the talent director left, I assumed his responsibilities. My status changed, and my workload increased considerably. For months, perhaps a year, I functioned in that role, assuming all the while that I would be named talent director permanently. To my shock, Another man was brought in from the outside and given that position. I was extremely disappointed. It was almost impossible to accept the fact that I had been treated that way. I was unaware that God was behind it all and allowing it to happen to further his purpose in my life. John Peterson goes on to tell how hard the days ahead were for him as this new man was aggressive, fast-talking, full of grandious ideas and projects John had to work with him but out of it came the song no one understands like Jesus perhaps you are having a problem with another person or with pain or some financial pressures this song may encourage your heart No one understands like Jesus. He's a friend beyond compare. Make him at the throne of mercy. He is waiting for you there. No one understands like No one is so near, so dear as Jesus, cast your every care on him. No one understands like me. of every woe he sees and feels, tenderly he whispers from the Lord, and the broken heart he healed. And now some verses from the Bible. The Lord your God is with you. His power gives you victory. The Lord will take delight in you, and in His love He will give you new life. Base your happiness on your hope in Christ. When trials come, endure them patiently, steadfastly maintain the habit of prayer. I waited patiently for the Lord. He turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit. out of the mud and mire. He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. Why am I so sad? Why am I so troubled? I will put my hope in God, and once again I will praise Him, my Savior, and my God. Remember when you are discouraged. Tell the Lord about it. It's really true. No one understands like Jesus.
