This evening as I was listening to our brother Carl present the gospel, I thought what a tremendous message and what a glorious privilege it is for us to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with people. So tonight I would like to continue along the same lines that our brother Carl has been sharing with you concerning the need to turn to Christ as Lord and Savior. I'd like to entitle our talk this evening, A Night to Remember. I don't know about you, but as you look back on life, aren't there certain nights and certain things that stand out in your mind? Events. So you say, you know what, as long as I live, if I were to live to be five hundred years old, and I hope the Lord comes before I get to be that old. Some of you say you probably don't have long to go, do you? But there are some nights that I will never forget. I can remember, as a boy growing up, fairly close to our house is a baseball field. At least where I grew up, there was a baseball field there. And I can remember how we used to go and get into the ballpark after the ticket taker was gone. And we would wait to catch a foul ball. Maybe kids don't do that anymore. But I can remember the very first time I ever caught a foul ball. And I went home with that foul ball. And that was one of my happy evenings. I can tell the girls don't appreciate that at all. But if you're a boy and like baseball, Well, that was a big time when you actually had a ball and it was new and it had all the laces in it. Couldn't get over that. All the laces were in there. There have been other evenings as well that I can remember. I can remember one time at the close of a meeting when I was playing with a flash cube in a handkerchief and I was trying to squeeze that just as tight as I could and that flash ball popped out of the handkerchief and shot about four rows up and it landed there and my father said, I'll see you when I get home. And I'll never forget that evening. I went home and I went to a bed immediately and my father went upstairs and joined me in my room for just a little talk. I ate the next several dinners standing up, but I'll never forget that night. And I can also remember, I guess it's been about thirteen or fourteen years ago, a night that I will never forget. For three years, my wife and I had gone together, and we had planned this tremendous day when we would get married. That's an exciting time. And I can tell by the look of the girl's face that you can identify with this better than you can of baseball. And so I said, look, Sharon, all I'm really interested in doing is getting married, and I don't care whether we sit down, stand up. I just do not sing at it if I have my way about it. I'm not opposed to music at weddings, but I just didn't want to be the one singing. And really, all I want out of the deal is a wife. And if I get that, I'll be absolutely content and satisfied. She said, all right, leave the details to me. And so I did. And she planned this rigmarole where you got up and you got down and you... I thought it was calisthenic for a while. But anyway, sooner or later, we got down to the punchline. And Dad said, do you. And I said, I do. And she said, do you. And she said, she did. And so... That was the highlight of it, kind of. And after the reception, we were going to go on the honeymoon. And really, to be honest with you, I was going to finish finals that day. And so my mother was very concerned about this. She said, Rob, really, you ought to pack for the honeymoon. I said, well, Mom, I've never been on a honeymoon before. And so if you're supposed to pack for a honeymoon, then I'll pack for a honeymoon. And so she said, really what you need are pajamas. Now it's just between me and you, I'm not real big on pajamas. I've always thought they strangled you. But I said, Mom, if you're saying pajamas are what you need, then I'll take pajamas. And so she went to Montgomery Ward, got a pair of pajamas, and she said, why don't you try these on? I said, Mom, I'm not going to try them on. Throw them in the suitcase. I'm going to take finals. I'm going to get married. And that's all there is to that. So after the ceremony and after the reception, a tremendous night, at least in my prejudice personal opinion, We jumped in the car. We raced off to be on our honeymoon. And I want you to know, I'll never forget that night. Because you see, on your honeymoon nights, you want to be cool, don't you? You want to be neat. Brother Harold doesn't understand that we're cool. You want to be just as... You want to pretend like everything's under control. And so I went in there and began to change into my pajamas, and I put on these pajamas. And I am not exaggerating when I tell you that there could have been three years in there. And there would have been a room left over. And the other thing is that when I rolled up the cuff, there was about a fifteen-inch cuff. And you don't look cool in a fifteen-inch cuff with a safety pin back here. And so I thought, well, there's always a chance that the shirt will hide it. And so I got on the top to these pajamas. And when I put that top on, I realized it really didn't matter about the pants because you couldn't see the pants. The shoulders hit me about here. And the shirt was down there. And whatever those pajamas were, they were not cool. And I want you to know that I'll never forget that night. A night to remember. Are there some nights that you look back in your life and you say, you know what, I remember that night. Now, I've got to admit to you, I've got a pet up here, and I'm trying to wave him goodbye, but I'm not sure he's taking the hint. There are other things about that night that I remember. But I want to ask you tonight, is there a time, a specific time, when you can say, yes, my sins were taken care of, and I know that I have received Christ as a personal Savior? Would you turn on your Bible this evening? to the book of Exodus chapter twelve and verse twelve. Exodus twelve and verse twelve. And let's look tonight at several biblical nights to remember. Exodus twelve and verse twelve. For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast. And against all the gods of Egypt, I will execute judgment. I am the Lord. And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the pledge shall not be upon you to destroy you when I smite the land of Egypt. And this day shall be unto you a memorial, and you shall keep it a feast to the Lord throughout your generation. You shall keep it a feast by an ordinance forever. Chapter twelve and verse forty-two. It is a night to be much observed unto the Lord, or a night to be much remembered unto the Lord, for bringing them out of the land of Egypt. This is that night of the Lord to be observed of all the children of Israel and their generation. I want you to know that what we have just read about is a night to be remembered if you were a Jewish boy. Exodus chapter twelve, verses one through eleven, begin to describe the details that God explained to Moses. The Lord speaks to Moses and he says, Moses, I want you to know that I'm going to pass through the countryside. And I want you to know that for every house that does not have blood applied on the door, this will be a night to be remembered for them as well as for those. And whose house the blood is applied and they are brought out of slavery. A night to be observed. A night to be remembered. And I can see Moses as he listens to God and God speaks to him. And he says, Moses, I want you to go and to tell them that house by house I want him to take a lamb. A lamb that has no blemish and no spot. I want them to take this lamb and I want them to put it in a pen for fourteen days and to watch it to observe it. And then at the end of that time, I want the life of that lamb to be taken. I want the blood to be applied to the door. I want the lamb to be roast. And he said, I'm going to lead you out of that. And I think as Moses got the message from the Lord, I think he went and he must have called every single household together in Egypt. And I think there must have been dads that listened to Moses like they had never listened to Moses before. Can you imagine a father that has a son and he loves that son? And Moses begins to describe how that the Lord will come through the land and every household that does not have blood upon it, that boy will die, that firstborn will die. I think that father would have reached in his pocket, got out a pen, and began to say, Moses, go over those directions again. I want to make sure I've got every detail down. And when that father would go home that night, and he would begin to explain to his children, look, here's what's going to happen. I think those boys would have said, Dad, are you sure that's all he said? Dad, are you sure that that's exactly what he said? Dad, I want you to know that I'm concerned because how we do that depends on whether or not I live. That was a critical night, wasn't it? A night to be observed in Israel. You know, to be honest with you, I'm very concerned about our country. This past summer I read in a magazine where there were the country in which over fifty percent of the people claimed to be Christians or were born again. and the article distinguishes between those two, the number one reason was for keeping the law, excuse me, the number two reason was for keeping the Ten Commandments, and the first reason was because they were baptized. I want you to know that in a country in which half of the people think they are saved, most of them are not saved according to the Word of God. I think it is high time that as mothers and dads, as young people, As children, we go back and we say, all right, do we understand the gospel message? Do we understand the penalty for sin? Do we understand the solution is Jesus Christ, not baptism, not the law, not good works, not being raised in a home in which they love the Word of God and they read the Word of God, but salvation comes by receiving as a personal Savior the Lord Jesus Christ. Often I try to illustrate the gospel in this way. You see, God is good. God is just. God is holy. And sometimes we tend to think, well, that's not good. No, I want you to know that is exactly the way I like God to be. But you see, because you have sinned and because I have sinned, our fellowship with God has been broken. And because of that, Christ came to die. The wages of my sin was death. And Christ loved me so much. He said, all right, I'll come and I'll die. And then use my death as payment for Rod Lindstedt's life. You see, that lamb that was put in that tent and was inspected for those fourteen days is a beautiful picture of Jesus Christ. I want you to know there was no blemish in him. not a single sin to be recorded against Christ. You will find in this description of verses one through eleven it talks about how that they examined the head, they examined the legs, they examined the inward parts, there could be no blemish in the land. I want you to know that people who were with Christ they examined him and guess what they found? The Apostle Paul, the intellect of the group, he said this about Christ, he said he knew no sin. examining his mind and his head, there was no blemish there. Next, Peter, Peter of man of action. He said, I examine his walk. He said, he did no sin. And John, the disciple that leaned on Jesus' breast, who perhaps knew him best, said this, in him was no sin. The angel comes to Mary and says, the holy thing in you. Does it sound like you're sinning him? No sin. He was not born in sin. He did no sin. He thought no sin. Sin was born to him until he went to the cross and he took my sin. And then he bled and he died that I might have everlasting life and that you might have everlasting life. And so that lamb was taken and put in a pen. And that lamb's life was taken so that the blood could be shed and the blood was applied to the door. And I want you to know on that night the angel came through, and all those in Israel who had the blood on the door, the life of that child was spared. And all those in Egypt will never forget that night. It is a night to be much remembered. You know, I think there are people, and perhaps even some in the audience tonight, and they say, well, you know, I know that Christ died. I am confident that most of the people in this country... believe, honestly they believe that Christ died. But I want you to know just because you admit you're a sinner and just because you say Christ died, that does not constitute salvation. Let me try to explain it in this way. If I were to ask tonight, Brother Bill, Bill, being a school teacher and an educator, who is the first president of the United States? Yes, Mr. Washington, all right. Now, Bill, you're pretty sure of that, aren't you? There's nothing worse than being heckled by someone in the crowd, unless it's a preacher heckling the crowd. All right, good. Let's just say, Bill, that you had five dollars. Would you be willing to wage your five dollars if he was the first president? Yes. All right. If you had five hundred dollars, would you be willing to wage your five hundred? And let's just suppose that Bill had a thousand dollars, and would you be willing to risk a thousand dollars? Oh, see, folks, he believes that George was the first president, but he doesn't believe it to the tune of a thousand dollars. Well, Warren isn't an educator, but... But he's the next best thing. He's gone through school. Warren, I know a thousand dollars isn't any problem for you. And so, would you be willing to wager a thousand dollars on George? And let's just say that Warren had a million dollars that he kind of slid back under the mattress because you never know when you're going to need some cash. And... And Warren, would you be willing to wager a million dollars if George was the first president? All right, good. Now, let's just say that the stakes were ten billion dollars. Are you willing to wager it? See, Warren believes that he was the president about a million worth, but not ten billion. And if he would have said yes to that, I would have said, listen, Warren, would you be willing to stake your life on it? And my guess is, by the way, he's letting me say no. Now, you see, everyone in the room said, listen, sure, George was the first president. And it looks like we believe it until someone actually says, hey, do you really believe it? And I find lots of people that come down to the point with George Washington, and usually about a thousand dollars, they say, well, I don't know. You see, the trouble is you've never seen him skip a dollar across the Delaware, have you? You didn't see him chop down the cherry, did you? And you didn't see him prop his feet up on the oval desktop, did you? And so really, you say, I don't know if he's president or not. Well, I want you to know something, folks. If I had a billion dollars, I'd bet it. Because I think he was the first president. And I didn't see him chop down the cherry tree. And I didn't see him sit in the oval office. But here's the thing. By faith, I believe that George was the first president. You see, there are a lot of people that say, oh, yeah, Jesus died, and I am a sinner. But when it gets right down to it, they're not about to commit their life to someone that they have never seen. And that's salvation. You see, faith comes by hearing. And hearing by believing. And it is this idea. Faith means this that you risk. If Warren was wrong, he lost a million dollars. If Bill was wrong, he lost five hundred. If I was wrong, I lost a billion. It's easy to spend money when you don't have it. But I want you to know something tonight. If you make a wrong decision about Jesus Christ, you have lost it all for eternity. You see, I believe that Christ came and died. I believe that he rose again. And I believe when he came and died, he died for a mighty. And I want you to know something. I didn't see him come and die. And yet I'm convinced he's real. And so by faith I accept what Christ did on the cross as payment for my sin. Have you ever come to a time in your life when you did exactly that? I want to show you tonight the striking difference between Pharaoh, one that was lost, and between those in Israel, those that were saved. Turn back in your Bible to Exodus chapter eight and verse nine. And this is among the first plagues. And the verse reads like this. And Moses said unto Pharaoh, Command me, or I like the old rendering better, Glory over me. I think that phrase would catch on. Glory over me, says Moses. That's clever, Moses. Glory over me. When shall I entreat for thee and for thy servants and for thy people to destroy the frogs from thee and thy houses that they may remain in the river only? And he that Pharaoh said tomorrow... Folks, do you see what this man said? This man, who is the president, the Pharaoh of Egypt, has just come to Moses and he says, Moses, I want you to know that I'm sick of frogs. The first plague that God sends to Pharaoh are these frogs. And Pharaoh gets up and in the morning there in his bowl of wheat, there's two frogs. He pours milk on him and there's more frogs. He picks up his utensils, there are frogs. He calls for the butler to come in, and there are frogs on him. Everywhere there are frogs. He goes out to pick up his newspaper. There are literally thousands of frogs that have been scraped up in the street, stinking, and there are a million more coming out of the river to replace them. And finally, he says, I can't stand frogs. My boys have a real liking for frogs. Of course, that's what happens when you're five years old and seven. And so this summer, Kyle captured two frogs. And the first one we put in a mustard jar, and it was named mustard. And the other one we put in a mayonnaise jar, and his name was mayonnaise. And on the way we were traveling, all of a sudden he said, mustard's loose. And all the girls riding in the camper suddenly were up on the top bunk as we looked for mustard. It's interesting to see how girls react to frogs. I've often wondered what the sound was in the village as all these frogs grow around. It can't usually girls scream. And then they get a little bit older, and then they begin to say, well, maybe that really is the way to get a prince. And so they go around kissing all these frogs, hoping that sooner or later one will turn into a prince. Someone said you got to kiss an awful lot of toads before you find a prince. But here is this man, and he's sick of frogs. He gets to the place where he said, I can't look another frog in the eye. He says, call Moses in. He says, Moses, he says, get these frogs. And Moses says, glory over me. He said, when shall I entreat the Lord? And Pharaoh is so stupid. He says, this tomorrow. One more night, I want to live in these frogs. Oh, this is good. I mean, can you believe he'd say that? I'll tell you why that's stupid. First of all, normally as you can put off, living with frogs one more night, things will get worse before they get better. Life flies, boils, river of blood, and finally the firstborn would die. You know what he could have said? He could have said now. But he was so stupid, he said tomorrow. Wouldn't it be a tragedy if there was one here tonight? And they said, you know, really, I need to come to Christ. I know that there has never been a time in my life when I have settled the case of my sin. I know that Christ died. I know that I need to be saved. But I have never by faith received him. I have never saw that when he died, he died for me. And I claim him. I accept him as my Savior. There may be some tonight. And I pray that you don't give the answer that Pharaoh did. When Pharaoh said tomorrow. Because for a lot of people, tomorrow never comes. And then I want you to turn in your Bible this evening to Matthew chapter twenty-five. Another night to remember. The Gospel of Matthew chapter twenty-five. And this was the story that I was thinking of as our brother gave to us the lesson earlier this evening. Beginning in verse one. Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins. They took their lamp and went forth to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were wise, and five were foolish. They that were foolish took their lamp and took no oil with them. But the wise took oil and their vessels with their lamps. For the bridegroom carried they all slumbered and slept, and at midnight, there's the night. At midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh, go ye out to meet him. Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said unto the wife, Give us of your oil, for our lamps are gone out. But the wives answered, Saints, not so, lest there not be enough for us and you, but go rather to them that fell, and buy for yourselves. And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage, and the door was shut. Afterward came also the other virgin, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answered and sent him to them, I know you not. Watch, therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming. I want you to know that there is a night to be remembered, and I believe that it's just around the corner. I believe the story that we have here is a picture of the coming of Christ. What a thrill it is to be living in a day in which we see every day the Word of God fulfill in a remarkable way. I think we are privileged people. Never before have people been able to say, I see the hand of God working every day as he begins to mold the people throughout the world, whether they are Christians or not, in such a miraculous way. If you can find easily the book of Amos, look at Amos chapter five. Amos chapter five, in verse eighteen, as our brother Carl today was making mention. of how that the Jewish people are saying that they don't think that they will ever celebrate this feast again that occurs every twenty-eight years. I want you to know that the Orthodox Jew has now found seven reasons why they don't feel that they will continue on, things will continue on as they are without Messiah coming. I won't take the time to go into all of those this evening. It is interesting that Amos, chapter five, verse eighteen, deals with this very situation. He says, It's woe unto you that desire the day of the Lord. So what end is it for you? The day of the Lord is darkness and not light, as if a man did flee from a lion and a bear met him, or went into the house and leaned his hand on the wall and a serpent bit him. Shall not the day of the Lord be darkness and not light, even very dark, and no brightness in it? You see the statement that Amos is making? Twenty-five, twenty-six hundred years ago, Amos talks about there will be a day when the Jew is excited about the day of the Lord. I believe we're living in that day. The Orthodox Jew is convinced that Messiah's coming is near. The trouble is, folks, they missed him the first time. He's coming the second time. And Amos said, I want you to know that just at the time when you're convinced Messiah is coming, and by the way, they were not convinced he was coming when Christ came the first time. Remember they continued to ask, do we look for another? Even John the Baptist said, are you the Christ or do we seek another? And the Jewish people have continued for two thousand years to look for Messiah to come. And tonight we live in a generation in which the Orthodox Jews said, Messiah is coming in our lifetime. We are convinced that we are doing some of these things for the last time. And Amos said, all right, I want to warn you, when you think the day of the Lord is coming, I want you to know that it is darkness and not light. It is judgment first, and then there will be a day of reckoning for Israel. He said, how will it be? Well, first of all, he said, what if a man were to run from a lion? And as he escaped from the lion on harm, a bear goes after him. And he runs from the bear and escapes from the bear. And finally he's safe in his own house. And he leans his hand against the wall. And while he's doing that, a serpent comes and bites him. He said, that's the way the day of the Lord will overtake you. I think it is interesting that we have seen Israel reborn as a nation in May, Even the Jewish people say, we fulfilled Ezekiel chapter thirty-seven in May nineteen forty-eight. The symbol of Israel and the symbol of England. England uses a lion. And it was out of England the lion that Israel escaped when they became a nation. And the prophet Amos twenty-five hundred years ago said, All right, what if they flee from a lion and they escaped successfully? What a miracle that was. We have lived to see it. Next it says this. But if he would have escaped from the lion and while he was there, a bear came down. Ezekiel chapter thirty eight the very next chapter it describes a country by the name of Rosh R-O-S-H exactly the country by its description by its name by its cities known as Russia today and the symbol for Russia just happens to be the bear isn't that amazing how how these things just happen to line up with the prophecy of the book of Amos and you know what the book of Ezekiel says that Israel will escape from the bear And that's the philosophy in Israel today. They are convinced that they will be invaded by the Soviet Union. And I don't know if any of you watched Nightline this past Thursday night in which they centered upon the Prime Minister's visit of Israel to the United States. And so they brought on to discuss the significance of his visit some people in our country, journalists in our country, and really the battle was this. Right now, the Reagan administration is counting on the fact that indeed Russia is looking for a stronghold by which to attack Israel. And the people on the left of the political scene are saying, why be worried about that when the real conflict could be a Jewish-Arab conflict? Well, if you believe the Bible, then we have every reason to believe that indeed the bear, Russia, is looking for a foothold under which to invade Israel. The Bible says they will escape the bear. They escaped the lion in nineteen forty eight. The bear Russia is looking over Israel and they begin to fight the weapons that are already on the borders ready for an advancement into the land of Israel. Those things are there tonight. And then it says this. And now little Israel escapes to their house thinking they've got it made. They lean their hand up against their own house and a serpent bites them. Revelation chapter twelve verse nine it speaks of in the middle of the tribulation. How that Satan will be thrown out of heaven. He will be restricted to the earth. And how he will consume the nation of Israel. So two-thirds of them will die. I want you to know that Israel is right. Messiah is coming. Not the first time. He's coming the second. He's not coming as he came the first time in humility. He's coming the next time in glory. And Israel who missed him the first time will pay a tremendous price for their expectation of the day of the Lord. I want you to know that when the bridegroom comes, it will be a night to be remembered. And I can promise you this, that if you know Christ is Savior, it will be a night you'll never forget. And I can tell you this, that if you're here tonight without Christ, it will be a night that you wish you could forget, but you never will. Throughout eternity, you will never forget that rejection. There is another night, and I'll just mention it. It's described in Matthew chapter twenty-six. It's a night when Christ and his disciples went out to a garden. And there one of the twelve would join them a little bit later, and they would have a band of soldiers, and the band of soldiers would be carrying a torch and weapons. And they would take the Lord Jesus Christ, and he would dismiss his disciples, and he would go, and he would be judged. That one who knew no sin, that one who did no sin, that one in which there was no sin, he would be bound by hands that hated him. He would be betrayed by a kiss and he would go as a volunteer to stand trial, not for a single sin that he had done, but to stand trial for my sin. Six times the judge in the case says, I find no fault in this man. Sounds to me like he's innocent. Have you ever heard a judge in a case declare six times the person's innocent and then they end up crucifying him? Makes no sense. Christ was determined to pay the debt of my sin. They described the events of that night in which they would bring the Lord Jesus there. And Matthew's Gospel talks about how the soldiers would come and they would begin to hit him in the face. And I see that face on that night and it's a massive blood. The eyes are beginning to sweat. The soldiers come and they pluck the beard from his cheek. The soldiers come, and now they blindfold him because they can't stand to look at those precious eyes that every one of them that will come and beat him in the face. He says, I love you, and I'll die for you. And one by one as they come, and they look into his eyes, and I think he says, I know everything you've ever done, and I'll still die for you. They ask that his face be covered. They continue to beat him. And then they will put a mock robe on him. They will take him and they will place a crown of thorns upon him and they will take that scepter and they will beat those thorns into his brow. And blood will squirt in every direction. Before the night is done, Pilate will say, after again he is pronounced that he is innocent, he will ask to scourge him and they will take a whip and they will beat his back. The metal and the bone and that whip, I'm convinced, dug into him and his flesh hung like a ribbon. And he did it because it was a night to be remembered. I want you to know that two thousand years ago on that night, Christ paid the debt of my sin. He paid the debt of not only my sin, but he paid the debt of the sin of every single person in this room. And the only thing that will keep you from heaven is if you say, I don't want to accept that one that will love me so much that he would give his very life for me. I want to be like Pharaoh and say, not tonight, but maybe tomorrow. I'll get rid of these frogs. I want to be like Judas. And I want to betray him. I want to be like those soldiers and beat him. Before the night was done, Christ would go to the cross and there they would... They would put nails in his hands and nails in his feet, and they would thrust a spear in his eyes. But that precious blood that he shed would make it a night to be remembered. Tonight, as we ask ourselves, are you ready? Remember the question asked to those as a bridegroom came. Are you ready? Those that were ready went in. Oh, what a night to remember. It's been several months ago now that I was told the story. I told it several of you on another occasion. I trust you won't mind if I repeat it. But it's a story that when I heard it several months ago, I can honestly say that there has not been a day gone by that I have not thought of this story. The story is about a young man who was a Christian and who seemed to be very zealous for the things of God. And yet like us all, it seemed that there were times when he was more intense than others. And at the close of a gospel meeting, really, even though he was a Christian, he came running down the aisle and he literally fell on his knees in front of that auditorium. And needless to say, it was a tremendous shock for every person there. Because they were convinced that there was a Christian in the congregation. Well, it must have been this particular fellow. And this young man was crying, weeping so bitterly. that the man who was speaking could not continue. And finally he stepped down from the platform and he began to minister to him in a private and a personal way. And finally when he gained his composure he told the story something like this. This man was employed in a hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. And in that hospital he had occasion to run across another young man. He was a chemist for a company in Cleveland. And this particular chemical company makes a chemical that reacts violently when exposed to water. It uses a drying agency. If you would like to dry a vessel out with a complicated shape, well, you put this in there and it literally explodes, blows the water out of the chest equipment or whatever it is. And this young chemist who was not a Christian became infatuated with this chemical. And so one day when there was no one else in the lab, he rinsed over and he took the whole container of it and he placed it into the pocket of his laboratory apron. And that night on purpose, he took his coat off and very carefully he wrapped it up and he simply brought it home with him. And knowing the danger of that chemical, well, he decided that he would start in his dresser drawer to make sure that it would remain dry. And he forgot about the chemical for several months. And then one time he was having a party. And as is the case that most parties were drinking, goes on pretty soon, thanks to you, Laurie. And so he decided, all right, I'm going to liven up the party. And so he went up to his bedroom and he opened the drawer and he took out that vial of chemical. And he brought it down and he called all of his friends around and there in the sink, there were just little droplets of water collected in various places around in the sink just before he had washed some glasses. And he took just a grain or two of this chemical and he threw them in there and they literally, they exploded like that. And of course everyone said, what in the world is that? And they all gathered around in tremendous excitement. And so he tried it again. And this time, of course, they didn't jump. And so he said, all right, I will give them something that they will never forget. And so that boy ran some water in the sink, just enough to cover the sink. And he was going to take just a part of a spoonful of this chemical and put it in there and allow it to explode in a violent way because flames literally danced off of... of the water when the chemical made contact with water. And in his excitement and with a room full of people gathered around that sink, he tripped as he brought that partial teaspoon full of chemical there. And his body came down on that vial of chemical and it crushed the bottle. And there in the sink the chemical and the water made contact together. And the flames that he thought would dance in the sink began to dance off of his body. And that boy in pain began to yell and to scream for help. And finally they got to the phone and they called for an ambulance and they brought this young man who was burned into the hospital and that's when this Christian boy made his first contact with him. And as they brought him into the emergency room, seeing the pain that he was in and obviously By his condition it was a burn. One of the nurses came and took a gauze package out and began to mop his brow. And evidently there was some moisture in the gauze that she had. And it exploded so bad that it literally burned her hand. And flames began to dance off of his forehead. And he began to cry. He said, my God, I'm in hell. Will somebody get me out of hell? Will somebody please get me out of hell? And then they strapped him down. And as that boy fought against those straps because of the pain, he began to sweat. In every place where he would sweat, that chemical that was now embedded into the pores of his skin, it would begin to explode, and the flames would dance two and three feet high off of him. Flames of yellow and blue and the very flames and the colors that he loved now consumed his body. And that young lad sat there and he begged and he cried and he repeated time and time again, he said, can't somebody see I'm in hell? And finally a doctor came in and seen the situation. He said, I'm going to give you all the sedatives I can without risking your life. And then he said, the only thing I know to do, he said, is literally to peel the skin off of you. And so he split the skin and he began to peel right down the eyelid, as I understand it, and peel the skin back. And finally the young man went into unconsciousness, but his last words were this, I'm in hell. Doesn't anyone care that I'm in hell? And at the end of that session, the young boy went over and he collapsed against the wall. And the doctor came over, who was also a Christian, and he called him by name, and he said, you've never seen anything like that, have you? The young boy said, no, I never have. And the doctor said, don't ever forget. that hell is worse than that. A night to be remembered. Tonight, are you sure? Do you know beyond a shadow of a doubt that if Christ were to come tonight, that you would be in his presence? Oh, what a relief to know. Christ died to save. Christ died that we might know that we are saved. Tonight, will you come? And ask our brother Johnny to come and to lead us into him at this time. Thank you. Come every soul by sin, O friends, there's mercy on the Lord, and He will surely give you rest by trusting in His word. Only trust Him, only trust Him, only trust Him now. He will save you, He will save you, He will save you now. For Jesus' head is precious blood, Great blessing to each soul. Sludge now into the Christian blood, And watch it white as gold. Only trust Him, only trust Him, only trust Him now. He will save you, He will save you now. Look at the words to the third verse. Yes, Jesus is the truth, the way that leads you into rest. Now notice the next verse. believe in him without delay and you are fully blessed it only comes by faith and that's all that you have to do is believe that he paid the penalty for your sin and then you can know for sure that you will not be eternally separated and in a hell-like situation that robin told us about tonight only by faith a simple faith
