In the book, The Life and Times of Jose Rizal by Senator Hoseas are these lines. Reading of the Bible played a great part in the instruction of young Rizal. His mother owned one of those rare copies of the Spanish Vulgate. She used to read it to him, choice passages, and when the boy couldn't understand, she translated them into Tagalog. Do you know the Bible? Are you teaching the Bible to your family? Dr. Jose Rizal was read to from the Bible as a child. Here at the beginning of the day, we hope you'll pause to hear God's word read, and then later in the day, we hope you'll take time to read it yourself. We need the sunshine to warm a summer breeze. We need the showers for thirsty flowers and trees. We need a little rest and labor, A love of kin and labor, But there's one thing we need, far more than thee. Above all else, The world needs Jesus above all else. The world needs him. He is the best. The world needs me. For he can lift the soul from dark despair, Save from sin and answer prayer. There is not another friend like Jesus. Above all. Above all else, the world meet here. Here are a few verses from the sacred scriptures to help you begin your day. We're reading the translation of Monsignor Ronald Knox. The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and he said, Look, this is the Lamb of God. Look, this is the one who takes away the sin of the world. It is of him that I said, one is coming after me who takes rank before me. He was when I was not. I myself did not know who he was, although the very reason why I have come with my baptism of water is to make him known to Israel. John also bear witness thus, I saw the Spirit coming down from heaven like a dove and resting on him. Till then I did not know him, but then I remembered what I had been told by the God who sent me to baptize with water. He told me, The man who will baptize with the Holy Spirit is the man on whom thou wilt see, the Spirit come down and rest. I have now seen him and have borne my witness that this is the Son of God." The next day after this John was standing there again with two of his disciples and watching Jesus as he walked by and he said, Look, this is the Lamb of God. The two disciples heard him say it and they followed Jesus. Turning and seeing him follow Jesus, Jesus asked, What would you have of me? Rabbi, they said, a word which means, Master, where dost thou live? He said to them, Come and see, and so they went, and saw where he lived, and stayed with him all the rest of the day.
