A corporal stood by with a self-important air, giving the orders to heave, but the piece of timber was a trifle too heavy for the squad. "'Why don't you help them?' asked the quiet man on the horse, addressing the corporal. "'Me? Why, I am a corporal, sir,' dismounting the stranger carefully, took his place with the soldiers. "'Now altogether, boys, heave.' and the big piece of timber slid into place. The stranger again mounted his horse. Then he turned to the corporal and said, The next time you have a piece of timber for your men to handle corporal, send for the commander-in-chief. We warn everyone we meet, and we teach everyone we can all that we know about him, so that if possible we may bring every man up to his full maturity in Christ. That is what I am working at all the time, with all the strength that God gives me. I wish you could understand how deep is my anxiety for you. and for those of Laodicea, and for all who have never met me, how I long that you may be encouraged and find out more and more how strong are the bonds of Christian love. How I long for you to grow more certain in your knowledge and more sure in your grasp of God Himself. May your spiritual experience become richer as you see more and more fully God's great secret, Christ Himself. For it is in Him and in Him alone that men will find all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. God's great secret, Christ Himself. Do you know this greatest of all secrets? Do you really know Him? Do you know Him as your Savior? He is the secret of life itself, real life.
