Veloved Radio, friends, we greet you warmly in the precious name of our beloved Savior, the Lord Jesus, continuing to give you a welcome to the meditation and the study of the precious Word of God. We rejoice that from the beginning, the book of Genesis, to the end of the Bible, the book of the Revelation, we have a divine library. And from its beginning to the end, All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, truly furnished unto all good works. It is a joy to realize, as we turn again to the book of Exodus, we have divine Scripture with divine lessons for our spiritual and eternal prophets. We're considering the character of the world, as it is revealed in the history of Israel when they were in Egypt and when they were delivered out of Egypt. We have spoken of the great antitype of the gospel, how that God through the gospel seeks to deliver us from a greater affliction and bondage, even a deliverance from the realm of Satan, the serpent. to bring us into the realm of his beloved Son, our blessed Saviour. We begin our reading today in chapter two of the book of the Exodus. We would like to read verse one through ten. And there went a man of the house of Levi and took to wife a daughter of Levi. And the woman conceived and bear a son. And when she saw him that he was a goodly or a proper child, she hid him three months. And when she could no longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bullrushes, and dogged it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein, and she laid it in the flags by the river's brink. And his sister stood afar off to whip what would be done to him. And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to wash herself at the river, and her maidens walked along by the river's side. And when she saw the ark among the flags, she sent her maid to fetch it. And when she had opened it, she saw the child. And behold, the babe wept. And she had compassion on him and said, This is one of the Hebrew's children. Then said his sister to Pharaoh's daughter, Shall I go and call to thee a nurse of the Hebrew women? that she may nurse the child for thee. And Pharaoh's daughter said unto her, Take this child away and nurse it for me, and I will give thee thy wages. And the woman took the child and nursed it. And the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh's daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses, and she said, because I drew him out of the water. May the Lord bless the reading and the hearing of his precious and holy word. We rejoice that we have some precious but eternal truth typified in this wonderful story in the book of Exodus. We have already noted the types that mainly have been suggested. That Egypt, that great empire of all, is a type of the world in which you and I are living. That Pharaoh, the God of Egypt, the prince and the power of Egypt, the ruler is a type of Satan, who is the prince of this world and the God of this age. We have also noted that the children of Israel in their bondage and in their affliction on the Pharaoh and Egyptian power are typical of the sinners living in this world in bondage to sin and Satan. Now we come to a chapter where another type, one that we have mentioned, but which is now revealed, is brought to our attention. It is Moses, who is the type of Christ, the great deliverer for the human race, in the story of God's gospel of love. Christ the world's deliverer. How blessed to realize Christ is a deliverer. We would quote again and we shall re-emphasize the verse that is found in Galatians chapter one, verses three and four. Our Lord Jesus Christ gave himself for our sins that he might deliver us out of this present evil world. My beloved radio friend, may I personally ask you, have you ever considered the great need that is yours to be delivered, to be saved, to be redeemed out of an evil world, a world that is under the direction and dominion of Satan, a world that certainly is the sphere where the affliction of sin and the bondage of sin is great. and where the very increase of the people of God is opposed, and where spiritual growth even for a believer is greatly hindered. But we do thank God nothing hindered the coming into the world of our Lord Jesus Christ. Here in our story we have the entrance of Moses upon the scene. When a man of the house of Levi was married to a daughter in the tribe of Levi, and God gave them a son. We read in the second verse of our chapter when his mother saw him that he was a goodly child or a proper child, she hid him three months. We have in our New Testament two references to Moses upon his appearance as a babe in this scene. In Hebrews chapter eleven in verse twenty-three, we have the expression that his parents recognized that he was beautiful. In the book of the Acts chapter seven in verse twenty, in the message that Stephen, the first martyr of the church, in the message that Stephen preached to the Jewish Sanhedrin, he covered the history of God's earthly people and mentioned the coming into this scene at birth of Moses. In his repetition of that history, he declares that his parents saw that the child was fair to God. There is no question of doubt. The faith of the father and the mother recognized, realized, and perhaps even anticipated, this child may be the Redeemer or the Deliverer, the Emancipator, of our people from Egyptian bondage. But may we point out something in relation to the coming of this goodly child, as he is so expressed in verse two. The moral glory of the Lord Jesus Christ coming into this world. Greater than a Moses, though Moses is revered and honored, greatly honored. Nevertheless, here is one who is a greater than a Moses. but with such moral beauty, with such moral glory, not only perhaps attracted to those who knew him and loved him, but more so he was fair to God. How many of us could ever begin to realize what the Lord Jesus Christ of Abraham wants to the heart of God, the Father of them, when he came into this scene to be the world's deliverer. We noted in the reading of our chapter, in verse three, that the mother of Moses recognized that the babe was the object of hatred, as well as the object of destruction at the hand of Pharaoh in the Egyptians. And we read when she could not longer hide him, she made the ark of bull rushes, She dogged it with slime and with pitch and put the child therein and laid it at the river's brink among the flags. Providentially, as we have read, Moses was preserved, but he was the object of hatred, and he was the object of destruction. Now let us look at the great antitype, and that is Christ. Please let me repeat. Moses is a precious type in this story of our Lord Jesus Christ, the world's great deliverer. It has been acknowledged by many through the span of time, no greater emancipator, no greater leader, as ever been known in human history, than Moses, the leader of God's earthly people, Delivering them out of Egypt by the hand and the power of God, crossing the Red Sea by divine miraculous authority, and then leading them for forty years through the wilderness scene toward the land of Canaan, their desired home. But oh how we can thank God in the story that we have read, Moses was providentially preserved. Instead of being destroyed and cast to the river, that the crocodiles may devour the child, he was providentially preserved. We would be reminded of our Lord Jesus Christ, who also was hid and protected from the hatred of the world. Read at your convenience Matthew chapter two, verses thirteen through fifteen. You may be familiar with the story of the wise men who came seeking the one who was born king of the Jews, telling Herod we have seen his star in the east, and we have come to worship him. And Herod immediately with all Jerusalem was troubled over the statement that these wise men heralded the birth of a new king. And you know the rest of the story in Matthew's Gospel, chapter two, how that Herod the great commanded the slaying of all the children two years and younger. And thus there was great lamentation in all of Israel that Joseph and Mary, at the behest of God, in a dream as the angel appeared to them, took the child Jesus into Egypt, where he was secure until the death of Herod. Yes, we can indeed say, As Moses was providentially preserved to be the deliverer of Israel long ago, so Christ, as a babe, was hid from the world's hatred to become the world's redeemer. My beloved, let us thank God for this. Father, we do thank thee. Our Lord Jesus Christ came to be our deliverer. May men and women trust him as their Savior. We would ask even today, for his name's sake, amen.
