Beloved radio friends, we welcome you to the broadcast today in that worthy and lovely name of our beloved Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. We continue our study of the week from the parable of the ten virgins. This is all in relation to the blessed theme, the coming again of our Lord Jesus Christ, the parable told by the Lord Jesus himself. We read the words from Matthew twenty-five. Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five foolish. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them. But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. And at midnight there was a cry made. Behold, the bridegroom cometh, go ye out to meet him. Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil, for our lamps have gone out. For the wise answered, saying, Not so, lest there be not enough for us and you, but go ye rather to them that sell and buy for yourselves. While they went to buy, the bridegroom came. and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage, and the door was shut. After it came the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us. But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour, wherein the Son of Man cometh. May God bless the reading of his precious word, and may the Holy Spirit illuminate the lesson to our hearts as we study it today. Yes, we come to the fourth verse of our chapter after we had noticed the division of these ten virgins. Five wise, five foolish, and we have emphasized from the application of the foolish virgins they were those who had not the Spirit of God, representing a mass in the profession of Christianity, though they may have a lamp professing to be Christians, they have no genuine life, not having been born again by the Spirit, nor having taken Christ as their Savior. But now we look at verse four, if you please, where we read, But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. Please note the contrast between the end of verse three and the words in verse four. The foolish They had lamps, but they took no oil with them. But in verse four, the wise, they took oil in their vessels with their lamps. These wise virgins represent true believers, who not only have a profession indicated and symbolized by the lamps, but they had oil in those lamps with their vessels to supply. Now the Holy Spirit, my beloved friend, may I suggest, you can search the Scriptures from the beginning to the end, and I hope you do. But I hope if you have done so, you have seen again and again and again from the old as well as the New Testament, how usually and frequently oil in the Scripture is a type of the Blessed Holy Spirit of God. For the Holy Spirit is present. and dwelling in every true child of God. That child of God may be perhaps a weak one, or even the least instructed believer. But let me emphasize with and from the Holy Scriptures that every believing sinner who trusts the Lord Jesus Christ as his or her Savior, they possess the oil, the person of the Holy Spirit. Now listen very carefully with me to the words of God. I again quote, as we did in our preceding message, first of all. Romans eight and verse nine, where Paul has written to say, Now if any man have not the spirit of Christ, he is none of his. Very emphatically and clearly, God declares that no person belongs to Christ without possessing the Holy Spirit. I commend to you, if you wish, the reading of Romans chapter eight, and you will find in this eight chapter of the book of Romans nineteen occasions referring to the Spirit of God within a believer. Please may I repeat it? It's an emphatic fact. Nineteen times in the one chapter the believer is referred to as being a possessor of the Spirit of God. Now let me read another scripture, if you please. First Corinthians chapter six in verse nineteen. I do this very carefully. For Paul, in the context of this chapter, has written to the born again believers in the city of Corinth. These believers in the city of Corinth were not living right, as a Christian should. You can read the book yourself. Paul had much to rebuke. and even immorality was charged against one of them, and other unworthy practices were laid to their charge by the Apostle Paul. Now, please let me say, if you've done any common sense and clearly read the Epistle of Paul to the Corinthians, you will recognize Paul had to write a corrective letter seeking to correct their mistakes. and they're foolish and folly that they were manifesting. Now know what the Apostle says in First Corinthians six, nineteen. Writing to them, what? Know you not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost? Which is in you? Which he have of God and you're not your own? Yes. Take it in. They were actually weak, failing Christians. But the apostle reminds them, they possessed oil in their lamps. The Holy Spirit dwelt within them. Now let me read another scripture, if you please. I want you to recognize that a true born-again believer possesses the Holy Spirit. Ephesians chapter one and verse thirteen, where Paul writes to the Ephesian believers and says, In Christ ye trusted, after ye heard the word of truth, when you heard the gospel of your salvation, and in whom also, after that ye believed, meaning literally upon believing, you were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise, who is the pledge of your inheritance until Jesus our Lord comes again. Please let me state emphatically, when one believes upon the Lord Jesus in sincerity and reality, that one immediately as the Holy Spirit taking up his abode within that heart and soul, and within that heart and soul to abide until the coming of the Lord. Oh, my beloved friend, do not ever be deceived by any false teaching, that you must, after you have been saved, seek the Holy Spirit. Sometime afterward, you must received the Spirit. Take God in His Word. Let me quote the words of Paul again. Upon believing, you were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise. My beloved, let me state frankly, if you do not have the Holy Spirit, you do not belong to Christ. Listen to Galatians chapter four in verse six. Paul writing to some other believers in the area of Galatia. Many of them being led astray by false teachers. And here he writes in Galatians four and verse six, Because you are sons or children of God, God has sent forth the spirit of its son into your heart, crying, Abba, Father. My beloved, when you were born again, you were a child of God, and then you can call God, Father. And it is the Spirit of God within your heart who enables and empowers you and me to say, Abba, which is an Aramaic word meaning in endearment, we call him our Father. My beloved friend, now we raise a question. The wise took oil in their lamps, vessels with their lamps. We raise the question, my friend, listening. Do you have oil in your lamps? Are you really born again? Let me repeat, with no apology for the repetition, on the authority of the Word of God. The Holy Spirit abides His presence within every true child of God, whether that believer may be a weak or even a least instructed believer. Paul declared to the Galatians later on in chapter three, received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith. Are you so foolish, having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh? As he writes in Galatians three, verses two and three, my fellow believer, let me state to you, you began the Christian life when you heard the gospel and by faith you believed it, you received it, and at the same time, you received life in the Spirit, and the Spirit of God came in to dwell with you and in you. Now listen, my beloved. Our theme of these studies relates to the coming again of the Lord Jesus. Our Lord Jesus as the bridegroom is coming again for his own. Now we ask the question very simply. We have two classes of people in the parable. Those are the wise and those that are foolish. Tis very evident from what our Lord Jesus has described, the wise were genuine, born-again believers. The foolish were not. We raise the question to you, my friend. Are you a wise virgin? Or are you a foolish virgin? You may have a lamp of profession, but may I say again, that will never do. You may have your name written on the church membership where you may belong. That will never do. You need the oil. Not only professing to be a Christian, God says you must be possessing genuine life as a true believer and on the authority of God being able to say, I have been born again. Now listen. Jesus said, Accept a man be born of water, the Word of God, and the Spirit. He cannot enter the kingdom of God. Job chapter three and verse five. Beloved, the Lord Jesus is coming. We're looking forward to him. Coming again. Many others are going to meet him, but we raise the question, will you? Are you a wise virgin or foolish? May God the Holy Spirit deal with your heart and conscience, and if you are not saved, come to the Savior today. Father, bless the truth in the name of the Lord Jesus. Amen.
