Beloved radio, friends, we greet you in the precious and the worthy name of our wonderful Savior, the Lord Jesus. We give you a hearty welcome to the study of God's precious Word. We are deeply grateful to begin, as we have done in the past few messages, a study on the great doctrine of the Holy Spirit of God. May I very earnestly state, I am so greatly aware today of a misunderstanding by so many Christians in regard to the person and the ministry of the Holy Spirit of God. There is an unbalanced condition that seems to prevail where uninstructed believers even do not have the correct teaching concerning the person and the work of the Holy Spirit from the Word of God. Now may I state particularly It is positively a mistake to stress one aspect of the Holy Spirit's work to the complete ignorance as well as negligence of other phases of his ministry. What we as believers in the Lord Jesus need is to have a well-rounded understanding of every doctrine of the Bible from the beginning to the end of its revelation of truth as God reveals it in His precious Word. This is so important in these present days concerning the biblical teaching of the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit's Word. I am aware of the fact there are so many being swept away by one phase of the Spirit's work according to their claims. My beloved, I wish that all of them had a complete understanding from the Word of God of the clear ministry of the Holy Spirit during the age of the church in its complete revelation. That is the purpose of our study. We are seeking to bring out from the Word of God the great person as well as the complete works of the Holy Spirit for our present age. Now we have introduced our study by an important fact that we must and do emphasize, first that the Holy Spirit is a person, a divine person too, for we have continued to declare His equality as a divine person in the great Godhead. We continue today to consider the equality of the Holy Spirit in the Godhead. We mentioned in our first consideration of this theme that the Holy Spirit is called God, and that we have proved from the Word of God. Now we would consider another proof concerning His equality in the Godhead. The Holy Spirit possesses the attributes of God, the moral attributes, the powers of God. Whatever God is, it is true of the Father. It is true of the Son, and it is also true of the Holy Spirit in relation to their qualities of being. Their attributes. Now let us consider some of the attributes that certainly declare that the Spirit of God is a divine person equal with other persons in the great Godhead. First of all, the earliest scripture that we could ever turn to. we find in the book of Genesis chapter one and verse two. Here are the words that have been penned by the historian Moses and written by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit himself. These are the words that we read, and the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. Now I'm sure that every reader of the Bible and every professing Christian Believe, I trust you do, I hope that you are not atheistic in regard to the creation. But every believer certainly declares that the creation account is found in the opening chapters of the Bible. And in that work of creation that is recorded in chapter one of Genesis, the Spirit of God is seen in his omnipotent participation in the work of creation. He moved upon the face of those dark waters. His participation in the act of creation is also confirmed in the book of Job, chapter twenty-six in verse thirteen. Now let me read the words. By his spirit he garnished the heavens, and the attribute of divine omnipotence is possessed by the Holy Spirit. Now may I be very careful and clear to remind my fellow believers particularly, I know that the glory of creation as well as the act of creation is greatly attributed to the Lord Jesus Christ as the great creator. Nevertheless, let me repeat what we did in our opening remarks when we began our study. There has never been any divine undertaking. without the participation of the Holy Spirit. And in relation to the great creation, the bringing in of the universe, and of the recreation of that chaotic scene, which is described in Genesis one, verse two, the Spirit of God had his work to do. And as Job declared by his spirit, he garnished the heavens. so that the attribute of omnipotence is thus possessed by the Holy Spirit. Then may I go further, the attribute of omniscience is also possessed by the Holy Spirit. Now may I read from First Corinthians chapter two, verses nine through eleven. We learn of his infinite knowledge in the things of God. I quote only part of this scripture. and quote these words from First Corinthians chapter two and the context between verses nine through eleven. For the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. That is in verse ten. Then again we read in verse eleven, Even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. My beloved, how we should recognize the omniscience of the Holy Spirit. We often declare, God knows everything. Yes, He does. How blessed to realize this is true of the Holy Spirit personally. His infinite knowledge of the things of God. The Spirit knoweth all things and searcheth all things, yet the deep things, the very depths of God. And thus, the things of God knows no man but the Spirit of God. My beloved, I wonder if it's truth of his omniscience, that he knows all things pertaining to God. It's precious to you and to me. For as the great revealer of the truth of God and the teacher of divine truth, he is certainly possessed with omniscience. And then may we go further to state his omnipresence. Yes, the omnipresence of the Holy Spirit. Even in Psalm one hundred and thirty-nine, the psalmist said, Where shall I flee from thy spirit? If I make, take the wings of the morning to the uttermost parts of the earth, even there thine hand shall find me. And my beloved, we must confess, please let me recapitulate this truth. The Holy Spirit is not only omnipotent. The Holy Spirit is not only omniscient. The Holy Spirit is also omnipresent. Whither shall I flee from thy spirit? Writes the psalmist in chapter one thirty-nine of the Psalms. Oh, beloved, again I state, these attributes of the Godhead possessed not only by the Father, not only by the Son, but also by the Holy Spirit. should cause you and me to honor, with dignity, with worship, with acknowledgement, the greatness of this person. And then may we add, the Holy Spirit performs divine works of God. Not only does he possess the attributes of God, he does the works of God. In Job chapter thirty-three and verse four it is written, the Spirit of God hath made me, even in relation to the creation of the human body. even in the creation of all creative life. Thou sendest forth thy spirit. They are created, writes the psalmist in chapter one, oh four in verse thirty. And the spirit of God is the enabling power for the Lord's people when in persecution. The Lord Jesus said when upon the earth, the Holy Ghost shall teach you the same hour what she ought to say. and also in empowering them ye shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost has come upon you. And in establishing even elders in the church, Acts twenty and verse twenty eight, the Holy Ghost has made you overseers and sent Paul to the elders in the church at Ephesus. He is the one by his presence and power that gives enabling power for the people of God. Then may I remind you that the Spirit of God had his work toward our redemption? But ye are washed, ye are sanctified, ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God, according to First Corinthians six and verse eleven. Yes, we thank God that even the believer is washed in the blood of the Lamb, sanctified once and for all through the atoning blood of Christ, and is justified and cleared from all charge of sin before God, by the precious blood of Christ, but who revealed this? And who applied all this work of Christ's redemption to the believer? Only the Spirit of God. And then may I close by stating, one of the great works that the Spirit of God has ever performed is this. He wrote the divine book, the Bible. Have you never noticed the singular fact about Christ and the Bible? Christ never wrote one word of it, though he is the great subject of the Bible. But the authorship of the Bible is attributed to the Holy Spirit. Prophecy came not in old time by the will of man, but holy men of old spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. Now may we summarize the truth that we have been speaking about concerning the greatness of the Holy Spirit. He is called God in the very Word of God. He also possesses completely the attributes of God. And then also the Holy Spirit performs He does the works of God. My beloved therefore, this establishes His equality with the Godhead. May indeed you and I rejoice in the knowledge of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit in proper worship, adoration, and respect. Father, sanctify thy truth, we do humbly pray, for the glory of our Saviour in his precious name. Amen.
