Beloved radio friends, we greet you in the precious name of the Lord Jesus. We delight in having the privilege which we consider a holy one to be speaking for the person of our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God. We continue our theme regarding the teaching from the Word of God relative to his blessed incarnation. We have touched upon some very precious facts. relating to the incarnation of our Lord Jesus Christ. We rejoice in the knowledge, by the word of God, revealed that when he was upon the earth, he was both very God and very man, absolutely at the same time. Oh, it is a marvel that you and I should consider that it was God himself who was made manifest in the flesh and dwelt amongst us full of grace and full of truth. But let us today and tomorrow in the will of the Lord consider some of the reasons for his incarnation. Why did the Son of God leave the heavenly home above, the Father's dwelling place, and take upon him our humanity and come to this dark, benighted earth? Why did he come? Let us consider some of the reasons. First of all, he came to reveal God to an end. May I repeat that? By coming to the earth, he came to reveal God to men. For by his incarnation, and listen to this carefully, the incomprehensible God has been translated into terms of human understanding. By the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, coming to the earth, in human understanding, You and I can recognize He reveals God to us. Let me quote some of the words of Scripture corroborating this blessed truth. First of all, the words of the Lord Jesus in Matthew eleven and verse twenty seven. Well, in that verse the Savior declares that no man knoweth the Son but the Father. And in those words we certainly should realize, if there's anyone that knows the Son perfectly, is no human being. All the depth of all that the Son, the depth, the height, the length, and the breadth of his great person, is only understood by God the Father. But in that same verse, Jesus goes on to say, No man knoweth the Son but the Father, and no man knoweth the Father but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him. He to whom the Son will reveal Him. Beloved friend, will you dwell upon that precious truth? The Son of God came to the earth that He might reveal the Father to mankind. Let me use another text, if you please. John chapter one and verse eighteen, where the dearly beloved apostle John was written, No man has seen God at any time. the only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him, or made him known. Can I dwell for a moment or two, reverently, worshipfully upon those words? John, by the Holy Spirit declaring the purpose for which the Son of God left the glory of heaven above, and took upon him the incarnate form of humanity, and thus by so doing, where no man had ever seen God at any time, the only begotten Son, the one dwelling in the bosom of the Father, by coming to the earth, he has made him known. Beloved, consider that. Think it through. Let me repeat the premise of our text with which we began and seek to emphasize as we continue. What think ye of Christ? To realize that the incomprehensible God, which no man can understand, nor is able to see, has been translated into terms of human understanding when Christ, the beloved Son of God, came to the earth. May I also quote the words that Jesus said to Philip, Repeated in John chapter fourteen and verse nine. When Philip asked the Lord Jesus, for the Lord Jesus had just made a statement, No man cometh unto the Father but by me. And dear Philip raises the question, How can we know the Father? How can we know him? And then Jesus answered, Philip, say, Philip, Have I been so long time with you, and yet sayest thou to me, show us the Father? He that hath seen me hath seen the Father. Now, please, I do not wish you to think that to look upon the Lord Jesus in his physical aspect is the revelation of the Father. My beloved, let me say this frankly. You may look at me, and I may look at you. But looking at your physical appearance does not tell me what you are. And you looking at my physical appearance does not tell you what I am. My beloved, your character, your personality is not revealed by the outward form. But, oh, in that life of the Son of God when he was here upon the earth, in all of his life, his words, his deeds, his thoughts, his actions, the revelation of the Father was being made known. Oh, let's look at a simple text which will help us in Romans chapter five and verse eight. For God commendeth his love toward us. In that while we were yet sinned as Christ died for us. Now please let me ask you, in this one verse cannot I understand? God loves me. How do I know it? Well, God commends that love in this manner. He gave his son to die for me upon the cross of Calvary. And does not that indicate? He came to reveal the love of that God for my soul. And He proved the revelation of it by dying for my sins upon the cross. Oh, the blessed truth of realizing, He came to reveal God to mankind. Now may I raise a question? My beloved friend, do you know God? Can you say He's my Father? Have you been brought to the Father through the Lord Jesus? No man cometh under the Father but by me, said he. Now there's one reason for the incarnation. He came to reveal God to mankind and was to God that men would find him. And second, he also came to reveal what man should be to God. He not only came to reveal what God is to man, but by his life. He became the ideal man to be an example. And particularly, of course, to believers. And did not Peter write the words, and we quote them from First Peter chapter two in verse twenty-one. Even hereunto were ye called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his step. Now may I speak carefully and qualify it carefully. He's not an example for the unsaved. My friend, if you're unsaved, don't try to follow Christ as your example. You need to get saved first. And then you can follow him as your example. Please, you don't get saved by trying to be his example, following his example in life. He was God's ideal man. Yes. and he shows what a life the believer should live when Christ becomes his and her Savior. And he came to reveal what man should be to God. But, oh, may I go further before closing today's message? He came in order to be a sacrifice for sin. The reason for the incarnation? My beloved, if you read Hebrews chapter ten. And you read the words beginning at verse one down through verse ten. You find the Blessed Lord Jesus is speaking to the Father with thanksgiving, and is thanking the Father for the human body that he was to take, prepared by the Father, as we have already seen, conceived by the Holy Ghost and born of the Virgin Mary. In the Scripture of Hebrews chapter ten, he thanked God that in that human body he would make an atonement and become the sacrifice for sin. Listen to these words. But this man, meaning Christ, after he had offered one sacrifice for sin, forever sat down on the right hand of God. Now, beloved, I want you to think of the book of the Hebrews for just a moment or two carefully. You that may have read it, it's written to the Hebrews. It's relative to their Judaistic form of religion, which God instituted in the days of Moses. And you know as well as I do. All the Judaistic relationship of the nation of Israel toward God was based upon their sacrifices they brought to him. constantly the need of sacrifices was implied and was often followed. That those sacrifices could never take away sin. They could only appease for one year the sin of the nation and their sacrifice had to be repeated every year. And together with that there were many daily sacrifices. Not all the blood of beasts, our Jewish altar slain, could give the guilty conscience peace nor take away one stain. But Christ, the heavenly Lamb, took all our guilt away, a sacrifice of nobler name, and richer blood than they. And you have these words, that this man, the blessed person of Christ in his humanity, after he had offered one sacrifice, that was all that was needed. to bring the forgiveness of sins in its availability to every man, woman, boy and girl. My beloved Lord. If you go to Hebrews chapter ten later on, you'll find Paul saying, There remaineth no more sacrifice for sin. Why? The one sacrifice of Christ has met all the need. Now I'm asking my listener, What do you think of Christ? Have you found in him who became man, perfect, holy, sinless, spotless, and pure, to go into the death of Calvary Street and die for your sins? Have you found him as your sacrifice? And said, Lord Jesus, I will trust thee. Trust thee with my soul. Guilty, lost, and helpless. Thou canst make me whole. There's none in heaven nor on earth like thee. Thou hast died for sinners. Therefore, Lord, for me. My beloved, are you not glad? God's dear Son became flesh to become our sacrifice for sin. Oh, blessed Father, what can we say? What do we think of thy Son? May the Holy Spirit provoke the right thoughts in every listener, in their hearts and in their minds. to their blessing eternal, and thy glory forever. Amen.
